A professor of Urban Planning at the Faculty of Engineering of Sapienza University of Rome, Councillor for Urban Planning for the City of Rome under the Rutelli administration, and President of INU Lazio for several terms, Cecchini has been a key figure in the innovation of urban planning, combining research, teaching and administrative practice.
The event marks the launch of the section dedicated to him in Urbanistica Informazioni no. 326, which highlights not only the breadth of his roles and the depth of his expertise, but also his personal qualities, which enabled him to build strong relationships throughout his career as an urban planner. A pioneer in introducing the principles of sustainability, Cecchini viewed urban planning as a collective responsibility, capable of balancing the quality of public space, public participation and the public interest.
Through contributions from colleagues, students and friends, the presentation highlights the value of his cultural and civic legacy, offering food for thought on the contemporary challenges facing the city.
